The Story : The First Omega in Space was created as a tribute to astronaut Wally Schirra’s personal CK2998, worn during the Mercury-Atlas 8 “Sigma 7” mission on October 3rd, 1962 – making it the first Omega watch ever worn in space. The FOIS recreates that early Speedmaster look with its smaller 39.7 mm straight-lug case, applied logo and Alpha hands.
Why we bought it ? One of the coolest modern Speedmasters. More compact and vintage-inspired than the classic Moonwatch, powered by the legendary caliber 1861 and directly connected to the very beginning of Omega’s space history. This 2018 example is particularly special thanks to its 10/10 condition, complete Full Set, two Omega straps and complete service. A seriously beautiful collector-grade FOIS.
